Inspecting gear oil
Inspecting gear oil
  Note
t  The vehicle must be standing on level ground for inspecting gear oil level.
t  The prescribed oil level should be observed, the gearbox reacts very sensitive to over-filling.
Gear oil level is checked with the gearbox installed.
Gear oil specification → Chapter
   
–  Unscrew oil filler plug -arrow- for inspecting gear oil.
–  Inspect oil level with self-made auxiliary tool, e.g angled wire.
The oil is at the correct level if the gear is filled up to 2 mm below the lower edge of the oil filler hole.
–  Tighten oil drain plug -arrow-.
If re-filling, do the following:
–  Unscrew oil filler plug -arrow- for inspecting gear oil.
–  Pour in gear oil again up to 2 mm below the lower edge of the oil filler hole.
–  Screw in oil drain plug -arrow-.
–  Start engine, engage a gear and allow gearbox to rotate for about 2 minutes.
–  Switch off engine and unscrew oil drain plug -arrow-.
Pour in gear oil again up to 2 mm below the lower edge of the oil filler hole.
–  Tighten oil drain plug -arrow-.
