Remove boot clamps, Fig. 6 .

2.

Place matchmarks on inboard joint. Do not use a sharp tool to place matchmarks on inboard joint.

3.

Remove inboard joint from driveshaft.

4.

Using snap ring pliers, remove snap ring.

5.

Using a suitable punch and hammer, place matchmarks on driveshaft and tripod joint.

6.

Using tool No. 09726-10010 and a suitable socket wrench, press tripod joint from driveshaft.

7.

Remove boots from inboard and outboard joints.

Assembly

    Before installing boot, wrap vinyl tape around driveshaft splines.

1.

Temporarily install boot and new boot clamp onto outboard joint.

2.

Temporarily install boot and new inboard joint clamp onto driveshaft. The boot and clamp for the inboard joint are larger than those of the
outboard joint.

3.

Assemble tripod joint as follows: 

a. Face the beveled side of tripod axial spline toward the outboard joint.
b. Align matchmarks placed during disassembly.
c. Using a suitable brass bar and hammer, tap tripod joint onto driveshaft.

4.

Install a new snap ring onto driveshaft.

5.

On Camry models, pack 6-6.4 ounces or on Corolla models pack 5.8 ounces of grease (supplied with new boot) into boot, then install boot onto
outboard joint.

6.

On Camry and Corolla models, pack 7.4-7.8 ounces of grease (supplied with new boot) into boot, then align matchmarks placed during
disassembly and install inboard joint onto driveshaft. Install boot onto inboard joint.

7.

Install both boot clamps onto boots. Ensure boot is on the driveshaft groove. Bend clamp band and lock.

Ensure boot is not stretched or damaged in any way when the driveshaft is at assembled length, Fig. 8. On 1984-86 Camry gasoline models, right
and left hand side driveshaft assembled length should be 17.87 inches (454 mm). On Camry diesel models, right hand side driveshaft assembled
length should be 28.19 inches (716 mm) and left hand side driveshaft assembled length should be 17.87 inches (454 mm). On 1984-86 Corolla
gasoline models, right hand side driveshaft assembled length should be 27.48 inches (698 mm) and left hand side driveshaft assembled length
should be 16.54 inches (420 mm). On Corolla diesel models, right hand side driveshaft assembled length should be 27.76 inches (705 mm) and left
hand side driveshaft assembled length should be 16.46 inches (418 mm). On 1987-88 Camry models, right and left side driveshaft assembled
length should be 17.744 inches (450.7 mm). On 1987-88 Corolla, left hand driveshaft assembled length should be 16.54 inches (420 mm) and right
hand driveshaft assembled length should be 27.48 inches (698 mm) on all exc. FX series w/man. trans. On 1987-88 Corolla FX series w/man.
trans., right hand driveshaft assembled length should be 27.56 inches (700 mm).
