T001

Check: Short Circuit in Wiring Harness

  • Important:
    Before working on the pyrotechnical system:
    Ignition off
    Disconnect and mask battery negative terminal
    Wait 1 min until the capacitor in the control unit has discharged.
  • Disconnect wiring harness connector from:
    A106 Squib - Airbag, Driver
  • Connect wiring harness connector to:
    G1 Battery
  • Ignition ON
  • Diagnostic Tester Data List Parameter
    Driver Airbag Stage2 Squib Circuit Resistance

greater than 3.9 Ohm

Check: Interruption in Wiring Harness

  • Ignition OFF
  • Connect fused jumper wire to:
    A106 Squib - Airbag, Driver
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1 (XC63)
    &
    A106 Squib - Airbag, Driver
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2 (XC63)
  • Ignition ON
  • Diagnostic Tester Data List Parameter
    Driver Airbag Stage2 Squib Circuit Resistance

less than 2.1 Ohm

Check: Short to Voltage/Ground of Signal Circuit

  • Important:
    Before working on the pyrotechnical system:
    Ignition off
    Disconnect and mask battery negative terminal
    Wait 1 min until the capacitor in the control unit has discharged.
  • Disconnect wiring harness connector from:
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    (Wiring Harness Connector XC17 )
  • Connect wiring harness connector to:
    G1 Battery
  • Ignition ON
  • Measure voltage between the following terminals:
    Fused jumper wire
    &
    Ground

Note:

Do not remove fused jumper wire

less than 0.3 V

Check: Short to Ground of Signal Circuit

  • Ignition OFF
  • Measure resistance between:
    Fused jumper wire
    &
    Ground

Do not remove fused jumper wire

E001 Result: Defective Component
  • Defective component:
    A106 Squib - Airbag, Driver
    or
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag

Note:

The replacement of the components must be done in the listed order.

The system must be checked for proper operation after every replacement.

E002 Result: Short to Ground
  • Short circuit to ground between:
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 24 (XC17)
    &
    A106 Squib - Airbag, Driver
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2 (XC63)
    or
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 23 (XC17)
    &
    A106 Squib - Airbag, Driver
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1 (XC63)

or

  • Defective component:
    A105 Column Integrated Module

Important:

Reset the concerned control unit with the diagnostic tester before replacing it. In order to do that, call up the "RESET" function from the PROGRAMMING menu of the current system on the diagnostic tester.

E003 Result: Short to Voltage
  • Short circuit to voltage between:
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 24 (XC17)
    &
    A106 Squib - Airbag, Driver
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2 (XC63)
    or
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 23 (XC17)
    &
    A106 Squib - Airbag, Driver
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1 (XC63)

or

  • Defective component:
    A105 Column Integrated Module

Important:

Reset the concerned control unit with the diagnostic tester before replacing it. In order to do that, call up the "RESET" function from the PROGRAMMING menu of the current system on the diagnostic tester.

E004 Result: Interruption
  • Circuit interruption between:
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 24 (XC17)
    &
    A106 Squib - Airbag, Driver
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2 (XC63)
    or
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 23 (XC17)
    &
    A106 Squib - Airbag, Driver
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1 (XC63)

or

  • Defective component:
    A105 Column Integrated Module
    or
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag

Important:

  • Defective component:
    A105 Column Integrated Module
    or
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag

Important:
