Work Order Description

Nominal Value

Check: Short Circuit in Wiring Harness

• Important:
  Before working on the pyrotechnical system:
  Ignition off
  Disconnect and mask battery negative terminal
  Wait 1 min until the capacitor in the control unit has discharged.
• Disconnect wiring harness connector from:
  Y166L Squib - Rollover Bar, Left
• Connect wiring harness connector to:
  G1 Battery
• Ignition ON
• Diagnostic Tester Data List Parameter
  Left Rollover Bar Squib Circuit Resistance

greater than 3.9 Ohm

Check: Interruption in Wiring Harness

• Ignition OFF
• Connect fused jumper wire to:
  Y166L Squib - Rollover Bar, Left
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2
  &
  Y166L Squib - Rollover Bar, Left
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1
• Ignition ON
• Diagnostic Tester Data List Parameter
  Left Rollover Bar Squib Circuit Resistance

less than 1.6 Ohm

Check: Short to Voltage of Signal Circuit

• Important:
  Before working on the pyrotechnical system:
  Ignition off
  Disconnect and mask battery negative terminal
  Wait 1 min until the capacitor in the control unit has discharged.
• Disconnect wiring harness connector from:
  A63 Control Unit - Airbag
  (Wiring Harness Connector XC18 )
• Connect wiring harness connector to:
  G1 Battery
• Ignition ON
• Measure voltage between the following terminals:
  Fused jumper wire
  &
  Ground

Note:

Do not remove fused jumper wire

less than 0.3 V

Check: Short to Ground of Signal Circuit

• Ignition OFF
• Measure resistance between the following terminals:
  Fused jumper wire
  &
  Ground

Note:

Do not remove fused jumper wire

greater than 500 kOhm

Result

Cause Of Fault

• Defective component:
  Y166L Squib - Rollover Bar, Left
  or
  A63 Control Unit - Airbag

Note:

The replacement of the components must be done in the listed order.

The system must be checked for proper operation after every replacement.

• Short circuit to ground between:
  A63 Control Unit - Airbag
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 21 (XC18)
  &
  Y166L Squib - Rollover Bar, Left
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2
  or
  A63 Control Unit - Airbag
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 22 (XC18)
  &
  Y166L Squib - Rollover Bar, Left
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1

• Short circuit to voltage between:
  A63 Control Unit - Airbag
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 21 (XC18)
  &
  Y166L Squib - Rollover Bar, Left
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2
  or
  A63 Control Unit - Airbag
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 22 (XC18)
  &
  Y166L Squib - Rollover Bar, Left
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1

• Circuit interruption between:
  A63 Control Unit - Airbag
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 21 (XC18)
  &
  Y166L Squib - Rollover Bar, Left
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2
  or
  A63 Control Unit - Airbag
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 22 (XC18)
  &
  Y166L Squib - Rollover Bar, Left
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1

or

• Defective component:
  A63 Control Unit - Airbag

• Short circuit in wiring harness between:
  A63 Control Unit - Airbag
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 21 (XC18)
  &
  A63 Control Unit - Airbag
  Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 22 (XC18)

or

• Defective component:
  A63 Control Unit - Airbag
