Check: Short Circuit in Wiring Harness

  • Important:
    Before working on the pyrotechnical system:
    Ignition off
    Disconnect and mask battery negative terminal
    Wait 1 min until the capacitor in the control unit has discharged.
  • Disconnect wiring harness connector:
    X49 Body & Assembly - Seat, Front Passenger
  • Connect wiring harness connector to:
    G1 Battery
  • Ignition ON
  • Diagnostic Tester Data List Parameter
    Passenger Pretensioner Squib Circuit Resistance

greater than 3.9 Ohm

Check: Interruption in Wiring Harness

  • Ignition OFF
  • Connect fused jumper wire to:
    X49 Body & Assembly - Seat, Front Passenger
    Wiring harness connector (control unit side) terminal 15
    &
    X49 Body & Assembly - Seat, Front Passenger
    Wiring harness connector (control unit side) terminal 16
  • Ignition ON
  • Diagnostic Tester Data List Parameter
    Passenger Pretensioner Squib Circuit Resistance

less than 1.6 Ohm

Check: Short to Voltage of Signal Circuit

  • Important:
    Before working on the pyrotechnical system:
    Ignition off
    Disconnect and mask battery negative terminal
    Wait 1 min until the capacitor in the control unit has discharged.
  • Disconnect wiring harness connector from:
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    (Wiring Harness Connector XC18 )
  • Connect wiring harness connector to:
    G1 Battery
  • Ignition ON
  • Measure voltage between the following terminals:
    Fused jumper wire
    &
    Ground

Note:

Do not remove fused jumper wire

less than 0.3 V

Yes: No:

Check: Short to Ground of Signal Circuit

  • Ignition OFF
  • Measure resistance between the following terminals:
    Fused jumper wire
    &
    Ground

Note:

Do not remove fused jumper wire

greater than 500 kOhm

Resistance Measurement Current Value: kOhm
Yes: No:

Cause Of Fault

E001 Result: Defective Component
  • Short to voltage/ground/interruption of circuit between:
    Y135 Squib - Belt Pretensioner, Front Passenger
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1
    &
    X49 Body & Assembly - Seat, Front Passenger
    Wiring harness connector (component side) terminal 15
    or
    Y135 Squib - Belt Pretensioner, Front Passenger
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2
    &
    X49 Body & Assembly - Seat, Front Passenger
    Wiring harness connector (component side) terminal 16

or

  • Defective component:
    Y135 Squib - Belt Pretensioner, Front Passenger
    or
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag

Note:

The replacement of the components must be done in the listed order.

The system must be checked for proper operation after every replacement.

E002 Result: Short to Ground
  • Short circuit to ground between:
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 20 (XC18)
    &
    X49 Body & Assembly - Seat, Front Passenger
    Wiring harness connector (control unit side) terminal 15
    or
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 19 (XC18)
    &
    X49 Body & Assembly - Seat, Front Passenger
    Wiring harness connector (control unit side) terminal 16
E003 Result: Short to Voltage
  • Short circuit to voltage between:
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 20 (XC18)
    &
    X49 Body & Assembly - Seat, Front Passenger
    Wiring harness connector (control unit side) terminal 15
    or
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 19 (XC18)
