Fan Motor, Replace

  Remove

1.   Open bonnet
2.   Disconnect battery
•   Detach ground connection from ground terminal
– Slacken nut
3.   Remove battery
•   Detach positive connection (3) from positive terminal
•   Remove bracket 1)
•   Unscrew bolt (2)

4.   Remove battery support.
•   Remove pre-heating system control unit (4)
•   Remove wiring harness plug (3)
•   Detach coolant hose
•   Unclip clip (5)
•   Detach wiring harness
– Detach 2x cable ties (1)
•   Unscrew 3x bolts (2)

5.   Remove engine cover
6.   Remove charge air hose from intercooler to charge air pipe (1)
•   Undo 2 clamps

7.   Remove charge air hose from turbocharger to charge air pipe (1)
•   Undo 2 clamps

8.   Remove air intake pipe (2)
•   Unclip 3x wiring harnesses
•   Detach engine vent hose (1)
– Disconnect quick-release fitting
•   Detach from turbocharger air intake hose
– Release clamp
•   Unscrew 2x bolts (3)

9.   Remove air intake hose (1)
•   Release clamp

10.   Detach upper radiator hose (1) from fan housing
•   Unclip from bracket
•   Remove bracket (2)

11.   Detach coolant hose (1) from fan housing
•   Unclip 2x from bracket (2)

12.   Detach wiring harness (1) for oxygen sensor
•   Unclip 2x from bracket (2)

13.   Detach wiring harness from radiator
•   Detach wiring harness plug (1) from fan motor

14.   Detach fan housing from radiator
•   Detach from radiator
– Unscrew 2x bolts (2)
•   Unclip fan housing from charge air pipe (1)

15.   Remove fan housing
•   Remove 2x from bracket
16.   Remove fan motor
•   Detach fan wheel from fan motor
– Unscrew 3 bolts (1)
•   Detach wiring harness plug with series resistor
– Unscrew bolt (3)
•   Detach fan motor from fan housing
– Unscrew 3 bolts (2)

  Install

17.   Install fan motor
•   Attach fan motor to fan housing
– Screw in 3x bolts
•   Attach wiring harness plug with series resistor
– Screw in bolt
•   Attach fan wheel
– Screw in 3x bolts
18.   Install fan housing
•   Insert 2x in bracket
19.   Attach fan housing to radiator
•   Clip fan housing onto charge air pipe
•   Attach to radiator
– Tighten 2x bolts
20.   Connect fan wring harness plug
21.   Attach wiring harness for oxygen sensor
•   Clip 2x in bracket
22.   Attach coolant hose to fan housing
•   Clip 2x in bracket
23.   Attach upper radiator hose to fan housing
•   Insert bracket
•   Clip into bracket
24.   Install air intake hose
•   Tighten clamp 3.5 Nm
25.   Fit air intake manifold pipe
•   Attach engine venting hose
– Connect quick release fitting
•   Attach to air intake hose
– Tighten clamp 3.5 Nm
•   Clip in 4x cable tie
•   Tighten 2x bolts
26.   Install charge air hose from turbocharger to charge air pipe
•   Tighten 2x clamp 3.5 Nm
27.   Install charge air hose, intercooler to charge air pipe
•   Tighten 2x clamp 3.5 Nm
28.   Install engine cover
29.   Install battery holder
•   Tighten 3x bolt 15 Nm
•   Attach pre-glow system control unit
•   Attach wiring harness plug
•   Clip in coolant hose
•   Attach wiring harness
– Connect 2x cable ties
30.   Install battery
•   Install bracket
– Tighten fastening bolt
•   Attach positive connection to positive terminal
– Tighten nut
31.   Connect battery
•   Attach ground connection to ground terminal
– Tighten nut
32.   Program volatile memories
33.   Close bonnet
