Engine Coolant Fan Replacement - 1.6L LDE, LLU, and MT

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  4. Remove A/C compressor and condenser hose bolt (1) from A/C compressor (2).
  5. Remove air conditioning compressor (2) and condenser hose (3).

  7. Disconnect the engine coolant fan resistor wiring harness plug (1).
  8. Remove the wiring harness (3).

    Note:  You stand against driving direction.

  10. Unclip the engine coolant fan shroud at the shown four mounting points.
  11. Remove the engine coolant fan shroud (1).

  13. Remove the engine coolant fan resistor (1) by unclipping the retainer clip (2).
  14. Unclip the engine coolant fan to engine coolant fan resistor wiring harness (arrows).
  15. Remove the 3 engine coolant fan motor bolts (3) from the engine coolant fan.
  16. Remove the engine coolant fan.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the engine coolant fan.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the 3 engine coolant fan motor bolts (3) to the engine coolant fan and tighten to  4 N·m (35 lb in) .
  4. Clip in the engine coolant fan to the engine coolant fan resistor wiring harness (arrows).
  5. Install the engine coolant fan resistor (1) by clipping the retainer clip (2).

  7. Install the engine coolant fan shroud (1).
  8. Clip in the engine coolant fan shroud (1) at the shown four mounting points.

  10. Connect the engine coolant fan resistor wiring harness plug (1).
  11. Install the wiring harness (3).

    Note:  Use NEW O-ring seals. Refer to Air Conditioning O-Ring Seal Replacement .

  13. Install air conditioning compressor and condenser hose (3).
  14. Install air conditioning compressor and condenser hose bolt (1) to A/C compressor (2) and tighten to  9 N·m (80 lb in) .
  15. Connect the negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  16. Evacuate and charge the refrigerant system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
