Oil Pan Replacement

Special Tools

EN-37228   Separating Tool

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement .
2. Remove the exhaust particulate filter. Refer to Exhaust Particulate Filter Replacement .

3. Place a drain pan under the oil drain plug (2).
4. Remove the oil pan drain plug (2) and the seal ring (1).
5. Drain the engine oil.

Note:  If reusing the lower oil pan use a NEW oil pan drain plug seal ring.
6. Install a NEW oil pan drain plug seal ring (1) to the oil pan drain plug (2).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution .
7. Install the oil sump drain plug and tighten to 20 N·m (15 lb ft) .

8. Remove the 15 lower oil pan bolts (2).
9. Remove the lower oil sump (1), using the EN-37228   separating tool .

10. Remove the 2 front wheel drive shaft bracket bolts (2) from the front wheel drive shaft bracket (1).

11. Disconnect the oil level sensor wiring harness plug (1).

12. Remove the exhaust temperature sensor connector (2) from the exhaust temperature sensor connector bracket (1)

13. Remove the exhaust temperature sensor connector bracket bolt (2).
14. Remove the exhaust temperature sensor connector bracket (1).

15. Remove the 2 wiring harness conduit nuts (2)
16. Remove the wiring harness conduit (1) from the upper oil pan.

17. Remove the 10 short upper oil pan bolts (3).
18. Remove the 2 upper oil pan nuts (4).
19. Remove the 4 long upper bolts (2).
20. Remove the upper oil sump (1), using the EN-37228   separating tool .

Installation Procedure

1. Clean the sealing surfaces.
2. Apply sealing compound to the upper oil pan. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .

3. Install the upper oil pan (1).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution .
4. Install the 10 short upper oil pan bolts (3) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in) .
5. Install the 4 long upper oil pan bolts (2) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in) .
6. Install the 2 upper oil pan nuts (4) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in) .

7. Install the wiring harness conduit (1) from the upper oil pan.
8. Install the 2 wiring harness conduit nuts (2) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in) .

9. Install the exhaust temperature sensor connector bracket (1).
10. Install the exhaust temperature sensor connector bracket bolt (2) and tighten to 46 N·m (34 lb ft) .

11. Install the exhaust temperature sensor connector (2) to the exhaust temperature sensor connector bracket (1).

12. Connect the oil level sensor wiring harness plug (1).

13. Install the 2 front wheel drive shaft bracket bolts (2) to the front wheel drive shaft bracket (1) and tighten to 58 N·m (43 lb ft) .
14. Clean the sealing surfaces.
15. Apply sealing compound to the oil pan. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .

16. Install the lower oil pan (1).
17. Install the 15 lower oil pan bolts (2) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in) .
18. Install the exhaust particulate filter. Refer to Exhaust Particulate Filter Replacement .
19. Install the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement .
20. Filling the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
