Selector Actuation Bowden Cable, Adjust  

Adjustment of the selector actuation Bowden cable up to MY '96.  

  Inspect   

Put selector lever consecutively into positions "P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1". Lift pull-knob up to first or second stop.   The actuation lever on transmission must engage at each of the following: "P" (front position), "R, N, D, 3, 2, 1".

If actuation lever does not engage:     Remove, Disconnect    Remove gearshift panel cover. Unclip by pressing area marked with arrows and twist, so that the opening is free.

  Adjust   

Guide a socket wrench through aperture (illus. I) and release cable clamp bolt (1). Selector actuation Bowden cable (illus. II, centre console removed).     Tighten (Torque)    Cable clamping bolt - 6 Nm / 4 lbf. ft. Check as described above, see also operation "Selector Lever Position Switch, Check".     Install, Connect    Clip gearshift panel cover to centre console.   Adjustment of selector actuation Bowden cable as of MY '96.   Adjustment of the Bowden cable is no longer required as a result of the new fastening on the transmission and selector lever (illus. III). The Bowden cable retarder on the transmission is secured with a retaining clip (arrow).
