Differential Gear, Remove and Install (F17+)
Note: Transmission
remains installed.
Remove
1. |
Detach axle shafts from transmission
Note: Axle shafts
remain in wheel hub.

2. |
Remove crossmember (2)
|
3. |
Detach rear torque support bracket (4) from transmission
|
4. |
Remove rear torque support (3)
• |
Undo rear torque support bolt from front axle body
Note: Differential gear
cover bolts (1) are now accessible.

|
|
|
5. |
Detach differential cover (1)
Note: Place collecting
pan underneath - transmission fluid will escape
|
6. |
Mark position of bearing race (2) in respect of transmission
(arrow)
|
|
|
7. |
Remove end shield cover (1).
• |
Unscrew 9x bolt
Note: If necessary,
release the end shield cover by striking it gently with a rubber
mallet
|
|
8. |
Detach end shield cover gasket
|
9. |
Remove end shield (2) from transmission
|
|
|
10. |
Remove bearing race with KM-447
(2)
• |
Remove retaining plate (1) from bearing race
|
|
11. |
Remove differential downwards
|
|
Install
12. |
Insert differential into transmission from below.
|
|
Important: Align bearing race
with marking previously made.
|
13. |
Install bearing race with KM-447
(2)
Important: The connection must be
oil-tight.
|
• |
Coat thread (arrow) and new O-ring (1) with multi-purpose
grease
|
|
|
14. |
Check clearance between tapered roller bearing and differential
housing
|
|
15. |
Install end shield (2)
|
Important: Note close tolerance
bolts.
|
16. |
Attach end shield cover (1)
• |
attach with new gasket to transmission housing
|
• |
Tighten 4x bolt M7 15 Nm
|
• |
Tighten 5x bolt M8 20 Nm
|
|
|
17. |
Replace differential cover (1)
|
|
|
18. |
Attach rear torque support bracket to transmission with new
bolts
• |
Tighten bolts 80 Nm + 45° –
60°
|
|

Attach rear torque support
|

Transmission Fluid Level, Check and Correct
|
|
