Steering Spindle, Upper, Replace
(See also "Steering Column Assembly, Disassemble and
Assemble").
Remove
Position steering straight ahead.
Pull steering wheel from steering spindle, using
KM - 210 - A.
Do not pound steering wheel off or on.
Unscrew signal switch cover (4 or 5 screws) and remove
lower half of covering.

Remove lock cylinder.
Remove upper half of signal switch covering.
Unclip signal switch (left) and wiper switch (right) from
switch housing.
Remove switch housing.
Prise out housing safety plugs (2).
Turn switch housing to the left (turning lock) and pull from
steering column.

Unscrew clamp bolt for steering spindle from steering spindle
flange.
Pull steering spindle out of steering column.
The lock cylinder for the steering and ignition lock is not to be
in "block position".
Install
Carefully direct steering spindle through spindle
plastic bearing into flexible coupling.
The half round recess on the spindle must align with the bolt
hole of the clamp flange.
Tighten clamp bolt of steering spindle flange - 25 Nm/18
lbf. ft.
Attach switch housing to steering column (turning lock) and
secure it.
Use two new safety plugs.
Clip on signal switch (left) and wiper switch (right) in
housing.
Important:
Signal switch must be in zero position.
Screw on two part signal switch cover.
Install lock cylinder.
Tighten and secure steering wheel - 25 Nm/18 lbf. ft.
Use new locking plate.
Check straight ahead driving position of steering (see
operation "Steering, Position Straight Ahead").
