Disposal

If a vehicle has been so badly damaged in a side or rear-end collision that there is
no question of repairing it, the airbag unit must be rendered useless by intentional deployment before scrapping. Special Service Tool KM-799 has been developed especially for this purpose.

Observe safety regulations in section 1.1.5

Procedure for intentional deployment with Special Service Tool KM-799:

·   Driver's airbag unit only:

-    Disconnect instrument panel/contact unit wiring harness plug X 91.

-    Connect Special Service Tool KM-799 to instrument panel/contact unit wiring harness plug X 91.

·   Driver and co-driver airbag units:

-    Disconnect airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90.

-    Connect Special Service Tool KM-799 to airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90.

·   Lead cable outside through door joint.

·   Connect external voltage source.

·   Deploy airbag unit(s) from a safe distance of approx. 10 m/10 yards from vehicle.
