Design:

Rotary valve power steering with and without Servotronic

The rotary valve power steering is a worm-and-nut steering, in which steering shaft and steering nut are equipped with ball races. On rotating the steering shaft, the steering nut is shifted axially, the balls stressed by this roll down in their races, resulting in rolling friction. The rotary valve power steering has exceptional longevity and requires only minor steering effort.

Servotronic

In this case, the hydraulic power steering is electronically controlled. At low vehicle speed, such as e.g. when parking, power steering support should be high and at higher speeds e.g. driving on the motorway, it should be low. This reduces the danger of oversteering at high speeds.

The power assisted steering gear is maintenance free. Overhaul or dismantling is not a dealer workshop task. All hydraulic system hose clamps are tightened to 2.5 Nm / 1.8 lbf. ft.
