Replace Valve Stem Seals (Cylinder Heads Installed)  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove camshafts - see operation "Camshafts, Remove and Install".  

Remove spark plugs with KM-194-E. Pull hydraulic valve lifter out of cylinder head with KM-845.  

Lay hydraulic valve lifters aside in correct order, to ensure that they can be allocated to the valves on reinstallation.

Compressed Air Adapter	MKM-889-17

  Remove, Disconnect   

Install compressed air adapter (1) in ignition plug bore and pressurise cylinder with compressed air.   Fasten joint (4) to lever arm (3) and install on cylinder head with supports (5) and assembly shaft (6) - assembly shaft must sit centrally on cylinder head.   Fasten removal head (2) at lever arm - ensure that when pressing down, the removal head is seated vertically on the upper valve spring plate. Press down valve springs and remove valve cotters with KM-889-16.     Important!    Do not use a magnetic tool to remove the valve cotters.

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove valve spring cap and valve spring.  

Notice: 

For valve stem seals of exhaust valves (cylinders 1-3-5), the supports must be modified so that assembly shaft is positioned towards rear (towards bulkhead) - ensure that when remover/assembly head is pressed down, it sits vertically on valve spring cap.  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove valve stem seals with KM-840.  

  Install, Connect   

Push enclosed assembly sleeve (2) on valve stem and lightly coat with engine oil. Place new valve stem seals (1) onto valve guide using KM-835-A and carefully drive in to stop with light blows. Insert valve spring and upper valve spring cap.   Install thrust piece (4) in assembly head (5). Insert valve keepers (3) in installation head with broad side towards plastic ring and clamp by pushing the plastic ring (6) forward. Fasten assembly head to lever arm - ensure that when pressing down, the assembly head is seated vertically on the upper valve spring plate. Allow valve keepers to engage by moving up and down - ensure that valve keepers are correctly seated.   Remove valve depressor from cylinder head.   Install spark plugs with KM-194-E - tightening torque 25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft. Lightly coat hydraulic valve lifter with engine oil and insert in correct sequence into cylinder head.   Install camshafts - see operation "Camshafts, Remove and Install".
