Auxiliary Fan Motor, Remove and Install (X 16 XEL with Secondary Air System)  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove radiator grille and front panelling - see operation "Front Panelling, Remove and Install" in group "A".   Remove front right turn signal lamp - see operation "Turn Signal Lamp - Front, Remove and Install" in group "N".   Remove right headlamp - see operation "Headlamp, Remove and Install" in group "N".   Unclip ambient temperature sensor (1) from bracket on front member and place wiring harness to one side.   Remove fastening nuts (arrows) and remove front member (2).

  Remove, Disconnect   

Detach both retaining brackets for radiator (1) on air deflector panel.   Detach auxiliary fan wiring harness plug (2) and unclip auxiliary fan wiring harness from radiator.   Remove fastening bolts (arrows) and carefully remove air duct pipe (3) forwards - for this purpose, carefully push radiator slightly to the rear.

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove fastening bolts (arrows) and carefully remove auxiliary fan housing downwards.   For vehicles with air conditioning: Attach condenser to body.     Important!    Do not bend refrigerant lines (1).

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove fastening bolts (arrows) and remove auxiliary fan motor together with fan wheel.     Install, Connect    Mount auxiliary fan motor on auxiliary fan housing together with fan wheel.   Carefully insert auxiliary fan housing from below and attach to radiator together with condenser (if fitted).   Install air duct pipe.   Connect wiring harness plug for auxiliary fan and fasten wiring harness to radiator.   Secure radiator on air deflector panel with both retaining brackets on left and right.   Attach front member to front side members with new fastening nuts.   Clip ambient temperature sensor into bracket on front member and secure wiring harness.   Install right headlamp - see operation "Headlamp, Remove and Install" in group "N".   Install front right turn signal lamp - see operation "Turn Signal Lamp - Front, Remove and Install" in group "N".   Attach radiator grille and front panelling - see operation "Front Panelling, Remove and Install" in group "A".
