Power Sounder (Vauxhall only)

The power sounder is an alarm siren with integrated batteries and chargers and is installed as a supplement to the ATWS horn in all Vauxhall vehicles

The power sounder monitors its input and supply leads and automatically triggers the acoustic alarm in the event of manipulation to the vehicle electrical system.

Function description

In the normal mode, voltage is supplied by the vehicle battery. The internal batteries are not used and are charged via the vehicle battery.

The self-supply mode is activated when the battery voltage sinks below 9 V or the vehicle battery is disconnected. The voltage is then supplied by the integrated batteries.

• Service

Before disconnecting the battery, observe the section "Disarm Power Sounder".

5.5.4.2   Power Sounder (Vauxhall only, continued)

Arm power sounder

The power sounder is automatically armed 15 seconds after the ignition is switched off.

Trigger alarm

If thereafter the battery is disconnected or alarm is triggered by the ATWS control unit, the power sounder sounds the alarm for the alarm period of approx. 30 seconds.

Disarm power sounder

Disarming can be performed in four different ways:

1  To permit Service work on the vehicle, the power sounder must be deactivated as follows: if the vehicle battery is disconnected within the 15 seconds following the ignition being switched off, the alarm is not triggered. The power sounder remains deactivated until the vehicle battery is connected again.

2  If alarm is triggered by a signal from the ATWS control unit or by disconnection of the vehicle battery, an alarm period of 30 seconds is followed by an automatic reset. The power sounder remains ready for operation, however.

3  The acoustic alarm is cancelled if the alarm is triggered by a signal from the ATWS control unit and the signal has stopped again before the alarm period (approx. 30 seconds) has been completed.

4  When the ignition is switched on.
