Checking steering hydraulics pump V119 function, Ecomatic > < Repairing power assisted steering

In the event of pump malfunctions → Fault finding No. 10 Running gear.
–  Disconnect pressure line from pump.
   
–  Install adapter and test equipment. Cut-off valve on pressure gauge open.
–  Start engine and, if necessary, top up fluid level in reservoir.
A - -V.A.G 1402/2-
B - -V.A.G 1402/1-
C - Hose from adapter set -V.A.G 1402/6-
D - -V.A.G 1402-
Test prerequisites:
l  V-belt and V-belt tension OK.
l  No leaks in system.
l  Hoses and lines are not kinked or restricted.
–  With engine running at idling speed, close shut-off valve (not longer than 5 seconds) and read pressure.
–  Specification: 85 ... 95 bar pressure.
  Note
t  Renew the pump if the reading is higher or lower than specified:
t  Removing and installing power steering vane pump, vehicles with 1.8l, 1.9l, 2.0l engine → Chapter.
t  Vehicles with 128 kW engine → Chapter.
t  If fluid level in reservoir is low, check steering system for leaks.
t  If leakage is visible at steering pinion, first check pipes and pipe connections for leaks. Tighten and wipe dry if necessary.
t  Power assisted steering box can be renewed if leaks occur at steering pinion sealing ring or steering rack seal in steering gear housing.
t  To check steering rack seals, loosen hose clip on boot and push back boot.
