Replacement EGR valve for vehicles with EGR diagnostics

BACKGROUND

Note:

Whenever checking a car equipped with EGR diagnostics, please refer to the procedures outlined in the above referenced Service Bulletin and
Technical Publication first.

Cars equipped with EGR diagnostics have an EGR temperature sensor located in the upper EGR pipe. This location subjects the EGR temperature sensor
to the extremes of ambient temperature which, at high altitude, can cause inappropriate temperature readings, resulting in storage of fault code 2-4-1. A
new EGR valve for cars with EGR diagnostics is being introduced as a spare part, p/n 6843406-7. This new EGR valve locates the EGR temperature
sensor in the valve housing itself, resulting in more accurate monitonng of the actual EGR temperature. For use with the new EGR valve, the temperature
sensor, p/n 3517135-4, has been modified and must be installed in the EGR valve. Leave the old temperature sensor in the EGR pipe.

Note:

The new temperature sensor has been upgraded with the addition of a washer welded to the bottom of the threaded portion. Refer to illustration
for identification.

Original EGR valve, p/n 3517849-0, should still be installed on vehicles not equipped with EGR diagnostics.

CAUTION: The temperature sensor is extremely sensitive to shock and impact. Handle with care.

Dismount the old EGR valve from the engine.

Install new temperature sensor, p/n 3517135-4 (with welded washer), in the new EGR valve. Torque sensor to:
7-13 N-m (5-9.5 ft.lb. or 60-110 in.lb.)
