Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
PINION SEAL REPLACEMENT
Special tools: 999-2261,5149,5156, 5244,5504, 5538, 9177
Removal
-
Mark propeller shaft in relation to drive flange.
-
Mark drive flange in relation to pinion end.
-
Remove flange.
-
Remove seal.
-
Clean and inspect sealing surfaces.
-
Replace drive flange if sealing face is worn.
Installation
-
Grease seal lip (see arrow) with Volvo bearing grease, P/N 1161241-3.
Install seal
-
Install oil thrower (if removed).
