insert the right tie rod through the hole in the fender liner and steering gear to the right Then raise the steering gear housing and slide the left tie rod out
through the fender liner (only applies to left-hand drive cars).
insert the left tie rod through the hole in the fender liner and steering gear to the left Then raise the steering gear housing and slide the right tie rod out
through the fender liner.
Check that the boots are the same length (only applies to right-hand drive cars).
Install:
-
the steering shaft on the pinion shaft
-
the right mounting bracket. Tighten to 69 Nm (only applies to left-hand drive cars)
the left mounting bracket. Tighten to 69 Nm (only applies to right-hand drive cars)
-
new O-rings on the pipes
-
the pipes on the steering gear housing. Tighten to 15 Nm
-
the left mounting bracket. Tighten to 69 Nm (only applies to left-hand drive cars)
the right mounting bracket. Tighten to 69 Nm (only applies to right-hand drive cars)
-
the pipe bracket. Tighten to 25 Nm.
Wipe off any fluid spillage.
Installing surrounding components
Install:
-
the heat deflector plate. Tighten to 10 Nm

the rear engine mounting on the transmission. Tighten to 60 Nm

the tie rods on the wheel spindles. See Ball joint tie rod, protective bellow or tie rod, replacing See: Tie Rod/Service and Repair/Removal and
Replacement.
Installing the front exhaust pipe
Install the front exhaust pipe. See Exhaust pipe front/catalytic converter, replacing See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Exhaust System/Catalytic

Install the front and rear heated oxygen sensors (HO2S). See Replacing lambda sonde front See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control
