General Equipment
Transmission jack

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Note the position of the transaxle upper and lower adapter plate.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not tighten the transaxle retaining bolts at this stage.
    Using a suitable transmission jack install the transaxle.
    • Secure the transaxle with two transaxle retaining bolts.

  1. Install the transaxle left-hand retaining bolts.

  1. Install the transaxle right-hand retaining bolts.
  1. Remove the transmission jack.

  1. Install the starter motor.

  1. Connect the starter motor.
    • Connect the electrical connector and the ground cable and install the cover.

  1. Install the secondary air injection (AIR) pump air cleaner bracket and install the ground cable.

  1. Install the AIR pump bracket.

  1. Install the AIR pump.
    1. Connect the hose.
    1. Connect the AIR pump electrical connector.
    1. Install the retaining bolts.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not tighten the retaining nut and bolts at this stage.
    Install the engine and transaxle rear mounting bracket.
    • Tighten the bolts in two stages.
    • Stage 1: 60 Nm
    • Stage 2: 90 degrees

  1. Tighten the engine front mounting retaining bolts.

  1. Tighten the engine and transaxle rear mounting nut and bolts.
    1. Tighten the bolts.
    1. Tighten the bolts in two stages.
    • Stage 1: 90 Nm
    • Stage 2: 90 degrees
    1. Tighten the nut in two stages.
    • Stage 1: 90 Nm
    • Stage 2: 90 degrees

  1. Remove the special tools.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Install the engine support insulator.
    1. Tighten the bolt.
    1. Tighten the bolts in two stages
    • Stage 1: 60 Nm
    • Stage 2: 90 degrees

  1. Install the center bearing carrier to the front housing.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The inner constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent at more than 20 degrees, the outer CV joint must not be bent at more than 50 degrees.
    Attach the right-hand halfshaft to the center bearing carrier.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The inner constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent at more than 20 degrees, the outer CV joint must not be bent at more than 50 degrees.
    Attach the left-hand halfshaft to the output drive flange.

  1. Attach the lower arm to the wheel knuckle on both sides.

  1. Connect the exhaust front pipe (three bolts).
  1. Install the front wheels on both sides. For additional information, refer to Section  204-04 Wheels and Tires.

  1. Install the engine undershield (two nuts and four bolts).
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Install the transaxle upper retaining bolts.

  1. Connect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.

  1. Lock the gearshift mechanism.
    1. Depress the selector shaft.
    1. Press the locking pin into the transaxle.

  1. Attach the gearshift and selector cable to the transaxle.
    1. Release the locking mechanism clockwise to unlock.
    1. Attach the cables, turning the abutment collar counterclockwise.
  1. Release the gearshift mechanism.

  1. Remove the drill bit.

  1. Install the gearshift lever boot and the lever gearshift lever knob.

  1. Connect the reversing lamp switch electrical connector.

  1. Connect the clutch slave cylinder pressure pipe to the transaxle.
    1. Connect the quick-release connector.
    1. Install the spring clip.

  1. Attach the clutch slave cylinder pressure pipe to the selector cable bracket.

  1. Connect the coolant hoses to the coolant expansion tank.

  1. Install the battery tray.

  1. Install the battery side cover.

  1. Connect the engine wiring harness and attach it to the battery tray.

  1. Connect the engine coolant level sensor electrical connector.
  1. Install the air cleaner. For additional information, refer to Section  303-12 Intake Air Distribution and Filtering.
  1. Install the battery. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
  1. Install the hood. For additional information, refer to Section  501-02 Front End Body Panels.
