Camshaft, Remove and Install (Cylinder Head
Installed)
 Remove
Remove air cleaner housing with air intake hose and hot film
mass air flow meter – see illustration "Air Ducts".
Remove upper part of toothed belt cover – see operation
"Toothed Belt Cover – Upper Part, Remove and Install".
For version with AC: Remove ribbed V-belts – see operation
"Ribbed V-belts, Remove and Install".
Remove V-belt – see operation "V-belt, Remove and
Install".
Remove lower part of toothed belt cover – see operation
"Toothed Belt Cover – Lower Part, Remove and Install".
Remove right engine damping block – see operation "Engine
Damping Block, Right, Remove and Install".
Remove toothed belt – see operation "Toothed Belt, Remove
and Install".
Remove vacuum pump – see operation "Vacuum Pump, Remove
and Install".

Remove camshaft pulley (2) – with open-ended spanner (1)
counterhold at hex of camshaft.
Remove battery.
Remove pressure plate (3) from camshaft housing.

Caution
Cover oil return bore holes in cylinder head during assembly so
thrust pieces cannot fall in.
Install
|
Attach Valve Depressor MKM-890 (1) to camshaft housing.
Press down all rocker arms evenly in slow stages.

Remove
Carefully remove camshaft (2) from camshaft housing.
Seal Ring – Camshaft, Replace.
Release tension in Valve Depressor MKM-890 and remove from
camshaft housing.
Remove rocker arms and thrust pieces – lay aside in
installation position, note allocation.
Inspect
Check all parts for damage and wear and replace if necessary.
When replacing camshaft, replace all rocker arms. Before
installation, check that crankshaft is at 90° before TDC
mark.
Install
Insert thrust pieces and cam followers – observe
installation position. Coat sliding surfaces of cam follower with
MoS 2 lubricating paste (grey).
Attach Valve Depressor MKM-890 to camshaft housing. Press down
all rocker arms evenly in slow stages.
Carefully insert camshaft into camshaft housing.
Remove
Release valve depressor and remove from camshaft housing –
check correct seating of thrust pieces and rocker arms.
Install
Install pressure plate on camshaft housing – 8 Nm / 6 lbf.
ft.
Install battery.

Coat sealing lip of the new seal ring lightly with silicon
grease (white) and press into camshaft housing with KM-422 –
use bolt and washer of the camshaft pulley.
Camshaft pulley with new bolt to camshaft – observe
installation position of washer.

Caution
Hand tighten camshaft pulley – must still be possible to
rotate camshaft pulley on camshaft.
Install
Install vacuum pump – see operation "Vacuum Pump, Remove
and Install".
Install toothed belt – see operation "Toothed Belt, Remove
and Install".
Install right engine damping block – see operation "Engine
Damping Block, Right, Remove and Install".
Install lower part of toothed belt cover – see operation
"Toothed Belt Cover – Lower Part, Remove and Install".
Install V-belt – see operation "V-belt, Remove and
Install".
For version with AC: Install ribbed V-belt – see operation
"Ribbed V-belt, Remove and Install".
Install upper part of toothed belt cover – see operation
"Toothed Belt Cover – Upper Part, Remove and Install".
