Steering control and linkage – construction features

By adjusting the specific handle located on the lower part of the steering column, the column can be adjusted in the longitudinal direction (± 20 mm) and tilted for vertical adjustment (1°.30' upwards and 2° downwards). It consists of two sections and

contributes greatly to the driver's safety, preventing dangerous backward movement of the steering wheel in all kinds of frontal impacts.

At the top of the steering column, there is the ignition switch 5520A ( Characteristic of working principle 5520A Ignition switch)where the

lock barrel and ALFA ROME CODE control unit aerial ALFAROMEO CODE 5580E ( Characteristic of working principle 5580E Anti-theft device)are

located.

The steering column also has a 'friction' type steering lock, as required by anti-theft regulations, which intervenes whenever the key is withdrawn from the ignition.

The steering wheel is built with high passive safety characteristics and it contains the Air Bag system 5580C ( Characteristic of working principle 5580C Air

bag system).

On versions fitted with them, in addition to the horn 5550B ( Characteristic of working principle 5550B Horns), on the steering wheel there

are the electrical controls for the radio 5570T ( Characteristic of working principle 5570T Car radio and car telephone)and the Selespeed

gearbox 2127A ( Characteristic of working principle 2127A Hydraulic transmission external linkage).

The very robust steering box uses over-rated racks and tie-rods to limit elastic yields on the steering line and ensure better driving precision.
