Removing and installing brake pedal (vehicles with automatic gearbox) Special tools and workshop equipment required t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331- t  Reversible ratchet -V.A.S 5122- t  Release tool -T40168- for brake light sensor.

t  Release tool -T40136-

t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1410- Removing

–  Remove dash panel trim on driver's side -1 ... 3-.

–  Unplug electrical connector on footwell vent -C-. –  Remove footwell vent -A-B-. –  Remove brake light sensor → Chapter. –  Separate brake pedal from brake servo → Chapter.   WARNING If possible, stop on brake pedal should always be left installed; otherwise mounting for brake light sensor could break off if brake pedal is released too abruptly. –  Remove bolt -11-.

–  Remove retaining clip -5- and pull out pin -4- towards the left. Installing

If possible, stop -17- on brake pedal must always be left installed; otherwise mounting for brake light sensor -10- could break off if brake pedal is released too abruptly.

–  Push retaining clip (left-side) -12- onto pin. –  Slide pin from left to right through shaft in brake pedal. –  Secure pin with retaining clip -5- on right side. The pin must be secured with the retaining clips -5 and 12- on both sides.

–  Fit bolt -11- and tighten. Attaching brake pedal to brake servo –  Hold ball head of push rod in front of mounting and push brake pedal towards brake servo so that ball head audibly locks into place. –  Install brake light sensor → Chapter.

–  Install footwell vent -A-B-. –  Tighten bolt securing footwell vent -A-. –  Attach electrical connector to footwell vent -C-.

–  Install dash panel trim on driver's side -1 ... 3-.
