Renewing front brake caliper (PR 1LM)
Renewing front brake caliper (PR 1LM)
  Note
   
Renew bolts -13-.
Removing
–  Insert brake pedal actuator -V.A.G 1869/2- between brake pedal and driver's seat (depress brake pedal at least 60 mm). This closes the valves in the brake master cylinder and stops the brake fluid reservoir from running empty.
–  Raise the vehicle.
–  Remove wheels.
–  Connect hose of bleeder bottle to bleeder screw of front brake caliper.
–  Open bleeder screw on front brake caliper to release pressure from brake system.
–  Close bleeder screw.
  Note
Do not remove brake pedal actuator -V.A.G 1869/2-.
–  Remove brake pads → Chapter.
  A46-10160
–  Disconnect brake hose -8- from brake caliper.
–  Remove bolts -13- (hold brake caliper firmly).
Installing
  Note
  A46-10160
Renew bolts -13-.
–  Attach brake caliper and secure with new bolts -13-.
–  Secure brake hose -8- to brake caliper.
  Note
t  Brake hose in brake caliper, 16 Nm
t  Brake pressure line to brake hose: 16 Nm
–  Install brake pads → Chapter.
–  Remove brake pedal actuator -V.A.G 1869/2-.
–  Bleed brake system → Chapter.
  Note
Bleed each brake caliper at both bleeder screws.
–  Fit wheels.
Tightening torque for wheel bolts → Rep. gr.44
  Caution
Before the vehicle is driven, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
  Caution
Before driving vehicle for the first time, make sure function of brakes is OK.
