Operation 4110D20 · STEERING ELECTRICAL CONTROL SYSTEM

Removing

- Place the front wheels straight, then engage the first steering lock to the right and remove the ignition key.

- Keep the steering column adjustment lever closed during all the removing-refitting stages.

- Do not, under any circumstances, remove the upper shaft during the removal of the steering column from its housing.

- Cover the centre of the dashboard with suitable protection to avoid damage during the final stage of removing the steering column.

1. Undo the bolt (1a) fixing the steering column to the steering box pinion (1b).

1. Disconnect the electrical connections (1a) and (1b) from the electric steering control unit.

2. Undo the nuts (2a) and the bolts (2b) fixing the steering column to the crossmember under the dashboard.

1. Grip the steering column (1a) as illustrated and remove it from its housing releasing it firstly from the two studs (1b) and then from the dashboard frame bracket (1c).

To facilitate the final removal stage, turn the steering column towards the centre of the dashboard protected previously against any impacts.

Refitting

- Place the steering column in position and secure it tightening the nuts and the bolts to the recommended torque.

- Remove the binding from the steering column moving parts.

- Connect the electrical connections for the electric steering control unit.

- Connect the steering column to the steering box pinion and secure by tightening the bolt to the specified torque.

- Remove the protection used for covering the centre area of the dashboard.
