ENGINE OIL LEAKS

A leak of engine oil can be seen with dripping and/or fouling of the engine

0	PRELIMINARY CHECKS	All OK	Problems met	Operation
		Results of the tests
	Carry out a preliminary visual inspection to locate the component or the area which is giving rise to the leak. If the visual inspection is not sufficient, wash the engine, dry it and cover the parts involved in talc: road test the vehicle to identify the leak	No leak located: Continue to Step 1	Leak located	Proceed directly with the step involved
1	DRAIN PLUG CHECK	All OK	Problems met	Operation
	Check the condition and the seal of the oil drain plug	Continue to Step 2	Tightening of drain plug not correct	Restore the correct tightening Op. 1020A30
2	OIL SUMP CHECK	All OK	Problems met	Operation
	Check: the condition of the oil sump, the seal of the sealant between the sump and the crankcase that the bolts fixing the sump are correctly tightened	Continue to Step 3	Oil sump damaged or distorted	Replace the oil sump Op. 1020A20
		Continue to Step 3	Lack of sealant or tightening not correct	Restore the correct tightening Op. 1020A20
3	OIL FILTER CHECK	All OK	Problems met	Operation
	Check: the condition of the oil filter the seal and condition of the gasket	Continue to Step 4	Oil filter damaged or distorted	Replace the oil filter and the gasket Op. 1084B30
4	OIL PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE CHECK	All OK	Problems met	Operation
	Check the condition of the oil pump pressure relief valve	Continue to Step 5	Valve stuck in closed position	Replace the oil pump Op. 1084B16
5	ENGINE GASKETS CHECK	All OK	Problems met	Operation
	Gain access to the crankshaft and camshaft gaskets Check the seal of these gaskets	Continue to Step 6	Crankshaft gaskets damaged	Replace the gaskets involved (see Assembly 1020D)
		Continue to Step 6	Camshaft gaskets damaged	Replace the gaskets involved (see Assembly 1036B)
6	CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATION	All OK	Problems met	Operation
	Check that the fault is no longer present	End of diagnosis	Fault persists	Search for the fault starting from another symptom'
