CYLINDER HEAD TIGHTENING

Diagram showing order for tightening bolts fixing cylinder head to crankcase, with bolts numbered 1 through 10 in a specific sequence. Below is a diagram of a bolt with length L indicated.

Diagram showing order for tightening bolts fixing cylinder head to crankcase

  • The correct procedure for tightening the cylinder head bolts is as follows, bearing in mind that for each tightening stage described, the tightening order is the one given in the diagram above:
  • Before tightening to torque, check the length of the bolts:
  • if the length (L) of the bolt is more than 121,5 mm, it should be replaced;
  • Lubricate the bolts and washer and leave them to drain for at least 30 minutes.

1st stage = 2 daNm
2nd stage = 6 daNm

Tightening with torque wrench, in two stages, of the cylinder head fixing bolts

  • Tighten the bolts to a torque of 2daNm;
  • Tighten to a torqueof 6 daNm using a torque wrench.

Angular tightening of cylinder head fixing bolts

  • Using a spanner, further tighten the bolts through an angular rotation of 180° following the order illustrated in the diagram above.

NOTE Where ASTADUR type gaskets are fitted it is no longer necessary to tighten the cylinder head fixing bolts after the first 1000 -1500 km.
