WARNINGS

  • Do not attempt to run the engine when the battery earth wire is disconnected. You could severely damage the wiring.
  • Never pull or tug at wires or wiring. You could extract the wires from the connectors or terminals.
  • Disconnect all the ECU's and other electronic devices before performing arc welding operations on the body.
  • Before replacing a fuse always check whether the circuit it protects is faulty.
  • When you replace a fuse, always check the amperage is the same. Never use higher or lower amperage fuses.

PRECAUTIONS

When operating on electric components always attain to the following precautions.

  • Remove rings, wrist watches or other metal objects.
  • Before intervening on the electric system (connectors, electric devices, wiring, etc.) DISCONNECT THE BATTERY.
  • Beware of electric arcs. Although the battery voltage is 12V, the battery can output high currents in the event of a short circuit. This can cause arcs or sparks which can be dangerous to the operator or could be the cause of fire.
  • Beware of high voltage. The electronic ignition system can generate voltages of 20,000V or more. This can be extremely dangerous. Work with extreme caution on or near components.
  • Beware of fire. Never smoke when working near the battery or components subject to heating during operation (e.g. halogen lights) nor in the engine compartment when the engine is warm. Avoid burns or damage to tools and components.

Reassembly

  1. Prepare a new switch with bushing (1a) and shim (1b).
  2. Keep the brake pedal pressed and insert the switch in the engaged position on the rod.
  3. Turn the switch clockwise by approximately 60° until the retaining tooth (3a) clips into the seat (3b).
  4. Release the brake pedal to its home position. Pull it upwards until the switch automatically positions itself with respect to the bushing.
  5. Press the pedal in order to remove the shim.
The shim will release a stop tooth inside which will prevent any shifts between switch and bushing.
