ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SIGNALLED BY INSTRUMENT TOO LOW

The message for the engine coolant temperature gauge is produced by the CCM Engine Management Node, converted by the Body Computer Node and then displayed in the by the Instrument Panel Node in the instrument in the centre of the dashboard.

STEPOPERATIONS TO BE CARRIED OUTTEST RESULTS
1TEMPERATURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the temperature of the engine sensor corresponds to the instrument reading.Move on to Step1. The temperature gauge is not working fully.

2.

See table K25 ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE NOT WORKING

2. The temperature gauge indicates very different values.Move on to Step
3. The temperature gauge is working, with very close readings between the two instruments.Move on to Step
2BATTERY VOLTAGE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the battery voltage is correct by reawakening the network.Move on to StepBattery voltage not correct.Restore the correct voltage.
3CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Connect the Examiner diagnostic equipment and check, in the Instrument Panel ambient, that there are no errors and that the parameters are present.Move on to Step4. Impossible to connect with the control unit.Move on to Step
5. Errors presentMove on to Step
4ERRORS CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Check for the presence of one or more of the following errors using the Examiner in the Instrument Panel ambient:

  • No communication with the BSI
  • VAN line error
  • Control unit broken
  • Coolant temperature error
Move on to Step1. No communication with Body Computer error detected and/or VAN CONfor. network error and/or control unit broken.Move on to Step
2. Coolanat temperature error detectedMove on to Step
5ACTIVE DIAGNOSIS CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
With the Examiner in the Instrument Panel ambient check that the function in question is correctly activated in Active Diagnosis. Coolant temperature gaugeMove on to StepThe component in question is not being operated correctly by the active diagnosis.Replace the Instrument Panel Node control unit.
6CONTROL UNIT ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Check the electrical circuit for the Insrument Panel Node and Body Computer systems, in order:

  • Presence of battery positive at the network connection
  • Wiring between the Body Computer and the Node in question.
  • Control unit earth
Move on to Step1. System faulty no positive caused by a control unit.1. Replace the component involved
2. System faulty no positive caused by the wiring2. Repair wiring.
3. Control unit earth faulty3. Restore the correct operation of the control unit earth
4. Instrument Panel Control Unit faulty.4. Replace the Instrument Panel control unit.
7BATTERY VOLTAGE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the battery voltage is correct by reawakening the network.Move on to StepBattery voltage not correct.Restore the correct voltage.
8CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Connect the Examiner diagnostic equipment and check, in the Body Computer ambient, that there are no errors and the following parameter is present and varies:

  • Coolant temperature
Move on to Step1. Impossible to connect with the control unit.1. Replace the Body Computer control unit.
2. Presence of errors.Move on to Step
3. No variation in the values of the parameter selectedMove on to Step
9ERRORS CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Check for the presence of one or more of the following errors using the Examiner in the Body Computer ambient:

  • VAN CONF error: connection with Instrument Panel
  • VAN CONF command inconsistency
  • Multif. or Navig. display error
  • CAN line error (connection with other control units)
Move on to Step1. No communication with Instrument Panel error detected and/or VAN CONfor. network error and/or control unit broken.Move on to Step
2. No communication with Engine Management Control Unit error detected and/or CAN error and/or control unit broken.Move on to Step
3. Control unit broken.3. Replace the Body Computer control unit
9CONTROL UNIT ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Check the electrical circuit for the Insrument Panel Node, the Engine Management Control Unit Node and the Body Computer systems, in order:

  • Presence of battery positive at the network connection
  • Wiring between the Body Computer and the Node in question.
  • Protective/supply fuse(s).
  • Control unit earth
Move on to Step1. System faulty, error due to control unit.1. Replace the Body Computer control unit
2. System faulty, error due to wiring.2. Restore wiring
3. Protective fuse/s blown3. Replace the component involved (in the case of a fuse, find out what caused it to blow).
4. Control unit earth faulty4. Restore the correct operation of the control unit earth
5. Body Computer control unit faulty.5. Replace the Instrument Panel control unit.
10BATTERY VOLTAGE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the battery voltage is correct by reawakening the network.Move on to StepBattery voltage not correct.Restore the correct voltage.
11CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Using the Examiner diagnostic equipment, check, in the Engine Management Control Unit Node ambient, that there are no errors and that the parameters are presentMove on to Step1. Impossible to connect with the control unit.Move on to Step
2. Presence of errors.Move on to Step
3. The values do not change with the engine running3. Replace the Engine Management Control Unit
12ERRORS CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Check for the presence of one or more of the following errors using the Examiner in the Engine Management Control Unit Node ambient:

  • CAN line error (connection with other control units)
  • CAN line
  • No communication between injection ECU and other control units
  • No communication on CAN
  • Internal control unit error
Move on to Step1. No communication with Body Computer error detected and/or CAN error and/or control unit broken.Move on to Step
2. No communication with CAN error detectedMove on to Step
3. Internal injection control unit error detected3. Replace the Engine Management control unit.
13ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION

Check the electrical circuit for the Engine Management Control Unit Node and the Body Computer Node systems, in order:
