Hydraulic Brake Actuation - Brake Pedal and Bracket—RHD, Vehicles With: Automatic Transaxle Cougar 1999 (08/1998-01/2001)
Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

  1. Remove the instrument panel lower panel.
    • Release the four clips.

  1. Remove the pedal switches.
    1. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
    1. Remove the switches.

  1. Remove the brake booster actuation rod retainer.

  1. Remove the accelerator pedal and bracket.
    1. Remove the nuts.
    1. Remove the bolt.
    1. Disconnect the accelerator cable.

  1. Remove the pedal bracket top bolts.

  1. Remove the pedal bracket side nuts.
  1. Remove the pedal bracket assembly.

  1. Remove the pivot shaft retaining clip.

  1. Remove the pivot shaft.
    1. Remove the pivot shaft.
    1. Remove the spacer.
    1. Remove the brake pedal.
    1. Remove the bush.

  1. Remove the brake pedal bushes.

  1. Remove the actuator rod support.
    1. Remove the clip.
    1. Remove the support.

Installation

  1. Install the actuator rod support.
    1. Install the support.
    1. Install the clip.

  1. Install the brake pedal bushes.

  1. Install the pivot shaft.
    1. Install the pivot shaft.
    1. Install the bush.
    1. Install the brake pedal.
    1. Install the spacer.

  1. Install the pivot shaft retaining clip.
    1. Compress the bush.
    1. Install the clip.

  1. Install the pedal bracket side nuts.

  1. Install the pedal bracket top bolts.

  1. Install the accelerator pedal and bracket.
    1. Install the nuts.
    1. Install the bolt.
    1. Install the accelerator.

  1. Install the brake booster actuator rod retaining clip.

  1. Reset the stop lamp switch.
    • Pull the switch plunger out to its full extent.
    • Depress the brake pedal.
    • Install the stop lamp switch.
  1. Slowly release the brake pedal.

  1. Install the pedal switches.
    1. Install the pedal switches.
    1. Connect the electrical connectors.
  1. Install the instrument panel lower panel.
  1. Connect the battery ground cable.
