Disassembly

  1. Dismantle the differential.
    1. Position the thrust element.
    1. Pull off the taper roller bearing.
    1. Remove the speedometer worm gear.

  1. Remove the differential pinions.
    1. Turn the pinion gears through 90 degrees in the differential cage and remove them.
    1. Remove the snap-ring and drive out the spindle.
    • Remove the pinions and the plastic thrust carriers.
    1. Unscrew the bolts five turns, and evenly drive off the crown wheel from the differential by striking the bolt heads.

Assembly

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The crown wheel is asymmetrical. Attach it with the larger shoulder and the larger chamfered edge facing towards the differential housing.
    Fit the differential cage.

  1. Fit the crown wheel and install the differential pinions.
    1. Draw on the crown wheel evenly using the old bolts.
    • Place the plastic thrust carriers and the two pinions in installation position.
    1. Drive in the shaft and secure it.
    1. Insert the pinion gears and turn them through 90 degrees in the differential cage.

  1. Fit the taper roller bearing and secure the crown wheel.
    1. Secure the crown wheel using new bolts.
    • Crown wheel with six holes: 115 Nm
    • Crown wheel with eight holes: 85 Nm
    1. Insert the speedometer worm gear in the recesses.
      NOTE:
      NOTE:Do not use the lower taper roller bearing for support.
    1. Drive on the two taper roller bearings.
