Engine - 1.4L/1.6L - Exhaust Manifold Focus 1999 (08/1998-12/2004)
In-vehicle Repair

Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
  1. Raise the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) multiplug.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Too much bending of the flexible pipe can cause damage that may lead to component failure.
    Protect the flexible pipe using a support casing or suitable splints. For additional information, refer to Section  309-00 Exhaust System.

  1. Detach the front exhaust pipe.
    • Remove the gasket.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Detach the engine ground cable and exhaust manifold heat shield.
    1. Engine ground cable
    1. Exhaust heat shield (three bolts).

  1. Detach the exhaust manifold (shown from below).
    • Remove the gasket.
  1. Remove the exhaust manifold.

Installation

  1. Pass the exhaust manifold into the engine compartment from above.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Use a new exhaust manifold gasket.
    Attach the exhaust manifold (shown from below).

  1. Attach the exhaust heat shield and engine ground cable.
    1. Exhaust manifold heat shield (three bolts)
    1. Engine ground cable
  1. Raise the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Connect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) multiplug.

  1. Install the front exhaust pipe using a new gasket.
  1. Detach the flexible pipe support.
  1. Lower the vehicle.
  1. Connect the battery negative lead. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
