Engine - 1.4L/1.6L - Cylinder Head Focus 1999 (08/1998-12/2004)
Disassembly and Assembly of Subassemblies

Disassembly

  1. Detach the intake manifold.
    • Remove the gaskets.

  1. Remove the engine wiring harness.
    1. Detach the throttle position sensor (TP sensor) multiplug.
    1. Disconnect the idle air control (IAC) valve connector.
    • Unclip the engine wiring harness.

  1. Remove the engine wiring harness.
    • Pull off the injection nozzle connector.

  1. Remove the fuel rail.
    • Pull off the vacuum hose.
    • Remove the bolts.

  1. Detach the cylinder head ancillary components.
    1. Ignition coil (EI)
    1. Coolant outlet housing with gasket
    1. Engine lifting eye
    1. Condenser

  1. Remove the camshaft position (CMP) sensor.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not re-use the cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor.
    Remove the CHT sensor.

Assembly

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Do not re-use the CHT sensor. Do not damage the pin contact when installing the new CHT sensor.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Place the cylinder head on a soft (e.g. rubber) support.
    Install the CHT sensor.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The new cylinder head is supplied with valves but without studs for the exhaust manifold.
    Screw new studs into the new cylinder head.

  1. Install the camshaft position (CMP) sensor with a new O-ring.

  1. Attach the cylinder head ancillary components.
    1. Ignition coil (EI)
    1. Coolant outlet housing with new gasket
    1. Engine lifting eye
    1. Condenser

  1. Attach the fuel rail.
    1. Fit the bolts.
    1. Push on the vacuum hose.

  1. Install the engine wiring harness.
    • Push on the injection nozzle connector.

  1. Install the engine wiring harness.
    1. Push on the throttle position sensor (TP sensor) multiplug.
    1. Idle air control (IAC) valve connector
    • Clip in the engine wiring harness.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Renew the gaskets.
    Fit the intake manifold.
