NOTE:The locations of engine mountings and engine support insulators are described looking from the automatic transaxle to the engine. Standard preparatory measures: - Make a note of the radio keycode.
- Make a note of the preset radio stations.
- Move the selector lever to "D" position.
| | -
CAUTION:Disconnect the battery ground cable. | | -
Remove the battery tray. - Unclip the connector.
- Remove the bolts.
- Unclip the cable.
| | -
Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) vacuum line from the EGR valve. | | -
Remove the air cleaner housing. - Disconnect the intake hose.
- Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose.
| | -
Remove the air cleaner intake pipe. | | -
Disconnect the electrical connectors and the selector lever cable from the automatic transaxle selector lever assembly. - Transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connector.
- Automatic transaxle electrical connector.
| | -
Disconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor electrical connector. | | -
Loosen the strut and spring assembly top mount nuts by five turns on both sides. | | -
Using the special tools, secure the engine. | | -
Remove the transaxle fluid level indicator tube bracket. | | -
Loosen the left-hand front wheel nuts. | | -
Remove the left-hand front wheel. | | -
CAUTION:Excessive bending of the flexible exhaust pipe may cause damage resulting in failure, support the flexible exhaust pipe with a support wrap or suitable splint. Using a suitable wrap, support the flexible exhaust pipe. | | -
Disconnect the front exhaust pipe and the three-way catalytic converter (TWC). | | -
Remove the right-hand engine roll restrictor. - Remove the bolt and the nut.
- Remove the bolt.
| | -
Detach the selector lever cable from the transaxle. - Detach the selector lever cable.
- Detach the selector lever cable from the bracket.
| | -
Remove the left-hand tie-rod nut. | | -
CAUTION:Protect the ball joint seal using a soft cloth to prevent damage. Using the special tool, detach the tie-rod ball joint. | | -
Detach the lower arms from the wheel knuckle (left-hand side shown). | | -
Remove the intermediate shaft center bearing cap. - Discard the bearing cap and locknuts.
| | -
CAUTION:Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees. Detach the right-hand halfshaft from the transaxle and secure it to one side. - Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
| | -
CAUTION:Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees. Using the special tools, detach the left-hand halfshaft from the transaxle and secure it to one side. - Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
| | -
Disconnect the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector. | | -
CAUTION:Using an open end spanner, prevent the fluid pipe adapter from turning. NOTE:Do not remove the fluid pipe adapter from the transaxle housing. Detach the oil cooler pipes from the transaxle. - Fit suitable blanking plugs to any open orifices and lines.
| | -
Remove the rear engine mount. | | -
Remove the rear engine mounting bracket. | | -
Remove the transaxle fluid level indicator tube. | | -
Remove the torque converter cover (if equipped). | | -
Disconnect the torque converter from the engine drive plate (four nuts). | | -
NOTE:Starter remains in installation position. Remove the starter motor bolts. | | -
Tilt the engine and transaxle assembly forwards and insert a suitable wooden block (length approximately 350 mm). | | -
Remove the flange bolts. - Three bolts (transaxle side).
- Six bolts (engine side).
| | -
CAUTION:Make sure the torque converter remains in the transaxle. NOTE:Make a note of the position and numbers of the dowels at the engine flange, to aid installation. Separate the transaxle from the engine and lower the transaxle. | | |
