In-vehicle Repair

General Equipment
16 mm ring spanner
Screwdriver

Removal

  1. Engage third gear.
  1. Raise the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Open the cover for the shift cable and selector cable.

  1. Detach the shift cable and selector cable.
    • Pull the shift and selector cables from the shift and selector levers and detach them from the brackets by turning the abutment collars clockwise.

  1. Remove the shift and selector cable cover.

  1. Remove the shift lever.
    1. Take off the protective cap and remove the retaining clip.
    1. Take off the shift lever.

  1. Remove the selector lever with the dust cover.

  1. Remove the selector shaft oil seal using a screwdriver .
    • Clean any dirt and rust from the selector shaft.

Installation

  1. Remove the dust cover from the new oil seal.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:There must be no adhesive band under the sealing lip of the oil seal once it is installed.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Wrap a thin adhesive band around the selector shaft to protect the oil seal from damage caused by the sharp edges of the residual flashing of the bore and the annular groove.
    Install the selector shaft oil seal using a 16 mm socket .
    • Put the dust cover in position.

  1. Install the selector lever.

  1. Install the shift lever.
    1. Insert the shift lever.
    1. Insert the clip and push on the protective cap.

  1. Install the cover for the shift cable and selector cable.

  1. Install the shift cable and selector cable.
    • Install the shift and selector cables on their brackets by turning the abutment sleeves clockwise and then press them onto the shift and selector levers.

  1. Close the cover for the shift cable and selector cable.
  1. Lower the vehicle.
