Removal
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Stop the piston rod from turning using an Allen key.
    Undo the suspension strut nut five turns.
  1. Raise the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Take off the lower suspension arm ball joint.

  1. Detach the front halfshaft intermediate bearing retaining bracket.
    • Discard the intermediate bearing retaining bracket and nuts

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent at more than 45 degrees.
    Detach the halfshaft with intermediate shaft from the transmission and secure them to one side.
    • Collect the oil in a suitable container.

  1. Remove the oil seal.

Installation
  1. Install the oil seal.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent at more than 45 degrees.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not damage the oil seal.
    Install the front halfshaft with the intermediate shaft in the transmission.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new intermediate bearing retaining bracket and new nuts.
    Install the front halfshaft intermediate bearing retaining bracket.

  1. Fit lower suspension arm ball joint.

  1. Top up with transmission fluid until the fluid level is 5 to 10 mm below the lower edge of the check hole.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Stop the piston rod from turning using an Allen key.
    Tighten the suspension strut nut.
    • Stop it from turning using an Allen key.
    • Tighten using a ring spanner until finger tight.
    • Tighten to specified torque using a torque wrench.
