Removal

  1. Remove the clutch.
    For additional information, refer to: Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate (308-01 Clutch, Removal and Installation).

  1. Remove the flywheel.

  1. Remove the adapter plate.
  1. Remove the accessory drive belt.
    For additional information, refer to: Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner - 1.3L Duratec-8V (Rocam)/1.6L Duratec-8V (Rocam) (303-05 Accessory Drive, Removal and Installation).

  1. Detach the air conditioning (A/C) compressor from the retaining bracket and secure it to one side.
  1. Drain the engine.
    • Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Inspect the oil drain plug seal for damage. Install a new drain plug and seal if necessary.
    Install the drain plug.

  1. Remove the oil pan.
    • Discard the gasket.

Installation

  1. Using a suitable spatula, remove any traces of sealant or gasket residue from the mating faces.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Install the oil pan gasket within five minutes of applying the sealant.
    Apply sealant to the cylinder block joints.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not tighten the oil pan retaining bolts at this stage.
    Using a suitable steel straight edge, align the oil pan to the cylinder block.
    • Maximum oil pan face underflush: 0.25 mm.
    • Maximum oil pan face protrusion: 0.10 mm.

  1. Tighten the oil pan retaining bolts in the sequence shown (stage 1).

  1. Tighten the oil pan retaining bolts in the sequence shown (stage 2).

  1. Attach the air conditioning (A/C) compressor to the retaining bracket.
  1. Install the accessory drive belt.

  1. Install the adapter plate.

  1. Install the flywheel.
  1. Install the clutch.
    For additional information, refer to: Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate (308-01 Clutch, Removal and Installation).
  1. Lower the vehicle.
  1. Fill the engine with engine oil.
    For additional information, refer to: Specifications (303-01B, Specifications).
  1. Using WDS, erase the power train control module (PCM) memory.
