Disassembly

  1. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.

  1. Remove the exhaust manifold.
    • Discard the gasket.
    • Discard the nuts.

  1. Remove the coolant flow control housing.

  1. Remove the engine front mount bracket.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Keep all parts in order for reassembly.
    Remove the camshaft bearing caps and the camshaft.
    • Slacken each bolt of the camshaft bearing caps by one turn until the camshaft is released.
    1. Remove the camshaft bearings caps.
    1. Remove the camshaft.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Keep all parts in order for reassembly.
    Remove the camshaft followers.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Keep all parts in order for reassembly.
    Remove the hydraulic lash adjusters.

  1. Install the camshaft and the camshaft bearing caps.
    • Install the camshaft.
    • Install the camshaft bearing caps.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Keep all parts in order for reassembly.
    Using the special tool, remove the valve springs.
    • Compress the valve springs.
    • Remove the valve collets, the valve spring retainers and the valve springs.

  1. Using the special tool, remove the valve seals.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Keep all parts in order for reassembly.
    Remove the valves.
    1. Exhaust valve.
    1. Intake valve.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Keep all parts in order for reassembly.
    Remove the camshaft bearing caps and the camshaft.
    1. Remove the camshaft bearings caps.
    1. Remove the camshaft.

Assembly

  1. Install the camshaft and the camshaft bearing caps.
    • Install the camshaft bearing caps.
    • Install the camshaft.

  1. Install the valves.
    1. Exhaust valve.
    1. Intake valve.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The valve seals are fully pressed in by valve spring pressure.
    Using the special tool, install the valve seals.

  1. Using the special tools, install the valve spring.
    • Compress the valve spring and the valve spring retainer.
    • Insert the valve collets.

  1. Remove the camshaft bearing caps and the camshaft.
    1. Remove the camshaft bearing caps.
    1. Remove the camshaft.

  1. Install the hydraulic lash adjusters.

  1. Install the camshaft followers.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the camshaft sprocket alignment slot in the camshaft slot is uppermost (12 o'clock) when installing the camshaft.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Apply a drop of hypoid oil (WSQ-2C9002-AA) to each cam bearing (upper and lower) half.
    Install the camshaft and the camshaft bearing caps.
    • Install the camshaft and tighten the bearing caps in two stages.
    • Tighten each of the camshaft bearing cap bolts by 90 degrees in the indicated sequence.
    • Tighten the bolts to the specified torque in the indicated sequence.

  1. Install the engine front mount bracket.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new gasket if the original is damaged.
    Install the coolant flow control housing.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new exhaust manifold gasket.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new exhaust manifold retaining nuts.
    Install the exhaust manifold.
    • Tighten the retaining bolts in the sequence shown in two stages.
    • Stage 1: 15 Nm
    • Stage 2: 20 Nm

  1. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
