Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Remover/Installer, Pivot Bushing

Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Detach the handbrake cable from the rear axle clip.

  1. Support the beam axle.

  1. Remove the trailing arm to mounting bracket retaining nuts and bolts (one each side).
  1. Carefully lower the beam axle so that the bushings are clear of the mounting bracket and body side rail.

  1. Mark the bushing housing adjacent to the mark on the bushing.
  1. Lubricate the shaft of the special tool with White Grease.

  1. Remove the trailing arm bushing.

Installation
  1. Mark the new trailing arm bushing to aid installation.
    • Mark the bushing sleeve in line with the mark on the bushing.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Lubricate the shaft of the special tool and the new bushing with White Grease.
    Install the trailing arm bushing.
    • Align the mark on the new bushing with the mark on the bushing housing.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:This tightening procedure should be carried out when the beam axle has been refitted and the vehicle weight is on the road wheels.
    Refit the remaining components in reverse order.
