Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Disassembly and Assembly CV Type
PRECAUTIONS
1. Secure joint assembly in a vise with protective material such as copper plates on the vise jaws.
2. Ensure dust or other foreign material does not enter joint during service.
3. Do not disassembly outboard CV joint.
4. Inner and outer CV joints are a different type and use different boots.
5. Do not wash CV joint unless it is being disassembled.
DISASSEMBLE

Refer to Fig. 1 during driveshaft disassembly.
1. Pry up locking clips of inboard boot bands with a screwdriver.
2. Remove bands with pliers, then slide boot along shaft to expose joint.
3. Mark location of outer ring and shaft for proper reassembly.
4. Remove stopper ring.
5. Mark location of shaft and tripod joint for proper reassembly.
