Air penetration - Service Solution

FAULT COMPLAINED OF

Air noise noticeable inside the passenger compartment.

TECHNICAL CAUSE

Air penetration between the windscreen perimeter seal and the window housing.

OPERATIONS IN NETWORK

Network behaviour standards towards the Customer

• When this problem is reported and confirmed, reassure the Customer that it can be solved by applying a bead of silicon sealant under the window perimeter seal.
• After the operation, show the Customer the work that has been done and make sure that they are satisfied.

Service Solution:If this problem is reported and confirmed, extrude a bead of sealant under the window perimeter seal in the upper area in order to fill the gaps between the window seal and the window housing (bodyshell).

OPERATING CYCLE

Working on the top section of the windscreen, carry out the following operations:

• Lift up the edge of the perimeter seal (e.g. in A - Fig. 1), using a plastic blade in order not to damage the paintwork.

• Thoroughly clean the gap between the window seal and the window housing where the sealant will go using compressed air and degrease with heptane from point A to point B (upper area of the glass);

• Insert the applicator nozzle for a silicon sealant cartridge prepared previously to apply a 6 mm diameter bead;
• Extrude the bead of sealant evenly from point A to point B (top area of the windscreen) in order to fill the gap between the windscreen seal and the housing (C - Fig. 2).

• Exert manual pressure on the seal to reposition it and ensure that the sealant is evenly distributed;
• Clean any excess sealant from the seal using heptane.

When using chemicals, closely follow the safety instructions given on the safety sheet which the supplier must give to the user (in Italy, in accordance with Legislative Decrees 52/97 and 285/98 and later modifications and inclusions).
