Diagram
  1. Remove circlip from drive shaft and discard.
  2. Inspect seal adjacent to outer joint and differential oil seal. Renew if worn or damaged.

WARNING: For ’ABS 5’ braking system, ensure reluctor ring fitted to drive shaft has 43 teeth.

Refit

  1. Wipe drive shaft ends, hub and differential oil seal.
  2. Lubricate differential oil seal with new gearbox oil.

Models with ’K’ and ’D’ series engine

  1. Fit NEW circlip to groove in drive shaft and lubricate oil seal running surfaces.
  2. Ensuring drive shaft is kept horizontal, insert drive shaft into differential and push fully home until circlip locks into differential groove.

Models with ’T’ series engine and PG1 gearbox only

CAUTION: Two types of oil seal have been fitted to the differential of the PG1 gearbox.

Models with ’t’ series engine and pg1 gearbox only – Ensuring drive shaft is kept horizontal, insert drive shaft into differential and push ful

’A’ - original oil seal ’B’ - modified oil seal

CAUTION: The differential maybe fitted with the original or modified oil seals. The modified oil seal is fitted to later gearboxes which have machined seal location faces. Modified oil seal MUST NOT be fitted to early gearboxes without machined faces.

’a’ - original oil seal ’b’ - modified oil seal – Ensuring drive shaft is kept horizontal, insert drive shaft into differential and push ful

NOTE: The drive shaft inboard joint has also been modified for use with the modified oil seal. The modified drive shaft is identified by a groove at point ’A’ which indicates that additional oil seal clearance has been added at point ’B’. Modified drive shafts can be used with original or modified oil seal.

CAUTION: Do not fit a modified oil seal when original drive shafts are fitted, as the drive shaft circlip will not engage in the differential.
