Daytime Running Lamps
The daytime running lamp system is used to enable the headlamps and sidelamps whenever the ignition is turned ON. The daylight running unit provides voltage for the headlamps and sidelamps whenever the ignition is ON and the lighting switch is in the OFF position.
The headlamps and sidelamps are controlled by the headlamp relay, main/dip relay, lighting switch, and the daylight running unit. The relays are located in the engine compartment fuse box and the lighting switch is mounted on the LH steering column lever.
Lighting Switch OFF
When the lighting switch is in the OFF position and the ignition is ON, voltage is applied via the R wires and the daylight running unit fuse to the daylight running unit. The daylight running unit is activated and applies earth via the B/3, U, and R/U wires to the coil of the headlamp relay. The relay energises and voltage is applied to both headlamps via fuse 40, the R/G wire, fuse 42, and the R/Y wire. Voltage is also applied to the main/dip relay and the main beam indicator in the instrument pack. Earth is provided to the dip beam headlamps by the B wires.
Voltage is also applied via the B/5 and R/B wires from the daylight running unit to both front sidelamps, both rear sidelamps, both number plate lamps, and the trailer connector. The earth path for the lamps is on B wires.
NOTE: Voltage is not applied on the B/7 and R/B wires to operate the illumination lamps.
