Camshaft timing belt check – 2.0

54. Position rubber washers and fit R.H. engine mounting.
55. Fit engine mounting to body bolt and leave finger tight.
56. Fit 2 engine mounting to engine nuts finger tight.
57. Tighten R.H. engine mounting to engine nuts to 100 Nm.
58. Tighten R.H. engine mounting to body bolt to 82 Nm.
59. Remove jack supporting power unit.
60. Slacken tensioner backplate bolt.
61. Rotate crankshaft clockwise 2 complete revolutions and align camshaft gear timing marks.
62. Tighten tensioner backplate bolt to 10 Nm.
63. Tighten tensioner pulley bolt to 45 Nm.
64. Fit timing belt upper front cover, ensuring correct position of rubber seal.
65. Tighten upper front cover screw and bolts to 4 Nm.
66. Fit and tension alternator drive belt.
67. Fit and tension power steering drive belt.
68. Fit front under belly panel and tighten screws to 9 Nm.
69. Fit road wheel and tighten nuts to 100 Nm.
70. Remove stand(s) and lower vehicle.
71. Connect battery earth lead.

CAMSHAFT TIMING BELT CHECK – 2.0

Service Repair No. Maintenance check – 12.65.17

CAUTION: This check must be carried out at the service intervals specified in the Service Maintenance Check Sheet and whenever carrying out any repair which requires the timing belt to be disturbed. Pay particular attention for signs of belt splitting at base of teeth.

1. Remove 5 bolts securing timing belt top cover.
2. Remove top cover.
3. Using a socket and extension bar on crankshaft pulley bolt, rotate engine a sufficient number of turns to enable timing belt to be inspected.

CAUTION: Do not use camshaft gears or retaining bolts to rotate engine.

4. Check timing belt for condition, renew any timing belt showing signs of oil contamination, cracking, fraying or splitting at base of teeth.

CAUTION: Cause of oil contamination, if present, must be rectified.

5. Clean timing belt top cover.
6. Position top cover.
