Gearbox casing and gearbox selector shaft: repairing

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Tool (2 levers) for separating seals with shafts of 15 to 100mm -T20143-

t	Hexagonal tool for removing/fitting fine-tuning cover (e/c) -U-20020-

t	Gear box repair set -U-40200A-

1 -	Gearbox casing

q	If replaced, adjust differential → Chapter

2 -	Adjustment sleeve

q	Remove with pliers

q	Fit as far as it will go

q	Dismantling and fitting → Fig.

q	Hold the washer on removing the circlip, → Item. Then stretch the compression spring carefully, → Item

q	Renew → Chapter

Removing gear selector shaft –  Unscrew the the gear selector shaft cap with tool -U-20020- and remove with the compression spring. –  Set the gear selector shaft in neutral and remove it from the gearbox casing.

Removing gear selector shaft oilseal –  Remove it by levering it with the seal removal lever -T20143/1-.

Fitting the gear selector shaft oilseal –  Insert as far as it will go. –  If the gearbox is fitted, fit with tool -U-40200/6-.

Removing gear selector shaft bearing –  Insert tool -U-40200/3- side A and the extractor -U-40200/10- on the opposite side to the oilseal and remove the bush.

Fitting gear selector shaft bearing –  Insert tool -U-40200/3- side B and extractor -U-40200/10- and locate the bush. Assembly position: The ball bearing projects from the orifice on the seal side.

Removing the needle roller bearing –  Remove with tool -U-40200/2- side A and tool -U-40200/10-.

Fit the needle bearing bush to the limit –  Fit with tool -U-40200/2- side B and tool -U-40200/10-.
