Power transmissionCalculating the ?i? reduction ratio
| Calculating the “i” reduction ratio |
| The reduction ratio between two pinions is obtained by dividing the number of cogs on the pinion driven by the number of cogs on the drive pinion. |
|
|
|
| | 5th gear | Tapered unit |
| Drive pinion (primary) | 47 ( Z primary) | 15 (Z Pinion) |
| Driven pinion (secondary) | 40 (Z secondary) | 64 (Z Crown) |
| Hence the following may be found: |
| lg = Reduction ratio in a gear |
| Ia = reduction ratio for the cone unit |
| ltotal = Total reduction ratio |
| This is obtained by multiplying the reduction ratio of the highest gear by that of the tapered unit. |
| Itotal = Ig x la = 0,851 x 4,267 = 3,631 |
