Injection system > < Engine control unit J623 : Removing and fitting

To replace the engine control unit, connect the → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051 and initiate the guided function “Replacing control unit”.
–  Switch off ignition.
Removing
   
–  Open the wiring guide -1- and lift up the lock -2-.
–  Extract the engine control unit from the bracket.

–  Undo the headless bolts -1- using pliers.
–  Turn the engine control unit -2- and use pliers to undo the second headless bolt as well

–  Remove the bracket -1- and the protective casing -2- in the -direction of the arrow- of the engine control unit -3-.
–  Unlock the engine control unit connectors and pull them off.
Fitting
–  Fit connectors and lock in position.
–  Slide the protective casing over the engine control unit.
–  Fit the protective casing support using new headless bolts
–  Tighten the headless bolts evenly, until the bolt heads break off.

–  Fit the engine control unit on the support of the splash guard plate. The block -1- should snap into place.
–  Fit the pipe on the pipe guide -1- and close.
–  When replacing the engine control unit, erase the self adapting values and adapt to the engine control unit → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051“Guided function”
–  Consult fault memory; if necessary, repair any faults and then erase fault memory → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051“guided fault finding”
–  After deleting the fault memory, the conformance code must be generated.
–  Take vehicle for a test drive.
–  Interrogate the control unit fault memory again.
