Test prerequisites
l  Engine at operating temperature
Test sequence
  WARNING
Hot vapour/hot coolant may escape when opening expansion tank. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully.
–  Open the cap of the coolant expansion tank.
   
–  Fit the cooling tester -V.A.G 1274B- with the adapter -V.A.G 1274/8- onto the expansion tank.
–  Use the hand pump on the tester to create an overpressure of approx. 1.0 bar.
If the pressure drops:
–  Find the leaks and repair them.

Testing pressure relief valve in cap
–  Fit the cooling tester -V.A.G 1274B- with the adapter -V.A.G 1274/9- onto the cap.
–  Operate hand vacuum pump.
l  At a pressure of 1.4 ... 1.6 bar, the pressure release valve should open.
–  If the valve does not open:
l  Replace the cap.
