Safety rules for work on the fuel supply system
When removing or installing the sender for the fuel level gauge or the fuel pump (fuel supply unit) when the fuel tank is full or part full, proceed as follows:
  Caution
The fuel supply lines are under pressure. Before loosening the hose connections, fit a cloth round the connection. Then eliminate the pressure carefully removing the hose.
t  Before beginning work, the vacuum tube of a working extractor must be close at hand, near the fuel tank assembly opening, to absorb the fumes given off by the fuel. If an extractor is not available, a radial fan can be used (the engine must be kept out of the flow of air) with an air flow above 15 m3/h.
t  Avoid contact between skin and fuel. Use fuel-resistant gloves!
If test and measuring apparatuses are required during a road test, take the following into account:
t  Always place the test and measurement apparatuses in the rear seat and have a second mechanic operate them from there.
t  If the test and measurement apparatuses are operated from the front passenger seat, the operator could be injured if the airbag is activated in the event of an accident.
